Gupta Padmasana (Hidden Lotus Pose)

In Sanskrit “Gupta” means “Hidden”. The English name of the asana is “Hidden Lotus Pose” since the feet and lotus position are hidden under the body.

 

Position : Sitting

Type : Relaxation

Spiritual Awareness : Anahat Chakra
Physical Awareness : Relaxation of both body, mind with normal breathing

Dosha Suitability : Tri-doshic effect

Introducer Asanas : Paschimottanasan, Baddha Konasana, Ardha Matsyendrasana

 

Procedure:

  1. Assume Padmasana. Place the hands on the floor in front of the knees.
  2. Leaning on the arms, raise the buttocks and stand on the knees.
  3. Slowly lower the front side of the body to the floor in the prone position.
  4. Rest either the chin or one cheek on the floor. Place the palms together behind the back.
  5. The fingers may point downward or upward in Hamsa mudra.
  6. If possible, touch the back of the head with the middle fingers.
  7. Close the eyes and relax the whole body. For compete relaxation, the hands may rest on the floor besides the body with the palms facing upward.
  8. Return to the starting position, cross the legs the other way and repeat the asana.
  9. Breathing is normal throughout the practice.
