About Parmarth Niketan Ashram

 

Parmarth Niketan is an ashram based in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, India. Swami Shukhdevanandji Maharaj founded this ashram in 1942 along the banks of the Ganges. Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji Maharaj holds the post of the President and Spiritual Head of Parmarth Niketan.

Parmarth Niketan Ashram takes pride in being the largest of all the ashrams based out of Rishikesh. The people who come from the entire world witness a pure, clean and serene atmosphere along with it the beautiful gardens provide clean air to thousands of pilgrims who breathe polluted air in megacities.

Parmarth Niketan Ashram offers yoga specialization training to yoga lovers in general Hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga, and yoga Nidra which are a daily activity here. The daily activities include meditation classes, universal morning prayers, lecture programs, and daily Satsang with kirtan. Pilgrims feel blessed to witness the world famous Ganga Arti (prayer) at the sunset where hundreds of visitors attend every day at the shore of Ganges.

A 14 feet tall statue of Lord Shiva on the bank of Ganga adds beauty to the view of the ashram. Vijaypal Baghel of Himalaya Vahini has planted the divine tree of heaven Kalpavriksha. Additionally, Parmarth Niketan Ashram conducts different spiritual and cultural programs of the revered saints, spiritual and social leaders, acclaimed musicians and others.

Yoga enthusiasts come to join the intensive courses on meditation, yoga, stress management, pranayama, acupressure, Ayurveda, Reiki, and other ancient Indian sciences. A non-profit religious/spiritual organization Swami Shukdevanand Trust also has its headquarters at Parmarth Niketan Ashram which was founded by Swami Shukdevanandaji Maharaj in 1942 dedicated to spirituality, religion, and culture and was registered under the Societies Registration Act in 1962. Visitor of any nationality, race, religion and caste or creed can visit and take lessons of Yoga at Parmarth Niketan Ashram which does not discriminate anyone.

 

Daily world class Ganga ceremony at Parmarth Niketan Ashram Rishikesh

 

Pilgrims from all religions and walk of life come to be a part of Ganga Aarti every sunset at Parmarth Niketan Ashram. The Ganga Aarti is above any language, culture, and religion that have the power of transcending to carry one to Heaven.   

Every day throughout the year Ganga Aarti is performed (times vary with seasons to season) at Ganga Ghat of Parmarth Niketan. Ganga is not just a source of water for Indians; she is a divine mother who falls from the might the Himalayas and carries purity, bliss, and liberation with herself. The river flows from the many states and merges with Arabic Ocean. She is the nectar of life and liberation. Not only she irrigates fields, but she also purifies the souls who take a holy dip in her water.

The Ganga Aarti takes place when the last ray of the sun on the Mother Ganga, the ceremony is performed by offering prayer to Ganga with song and some rituals. Oil lamps are offered to God from the banks of the Ganga.

The Aarti ceremony is a way to say ‘Thank you’ to the God who offers us the light of the sun, the light of life and the light of their blessings. Through aarti, the people offer back the light of their thanks, love, and devotion. Aarti is the removes of pain.

Ganga Aarti gives the pilgrimages a chance to take a break from the stress of daily life, and gather together in joy and peace.
