Aerial Yoga Teacher Training Course in Rishikesh

Experience the magic of flying with Himalayan Yoga Association

Aerial yoga, also known as anti-gravity yoga or flying yoga, is one of the most innovative and exciting forms of yoga practiced today. It is a beautiful combination of traditional yoga, acrobatics, and aerial movements, all performed with the support of a suspended silk hammock. This practice will teach you balance, patience and a strong sense of body awareness as well as the ability to establish a strong relationship between your body and mind.

Unlike conventional yoga, Aerial yoga is not practiced on a mat. Rather, it is done in the air with a hammock that is securely attached to the ceiling. This renders the whole experience distinctly therapeutic and profoundly helpful to the body, mind and health in general.

Some of the key benefits of Aerial yoga include:

  • Spinal decompression and relief from back tension
  • Reduction of stress and muscle relaxation.
  • Development of core and upper body strength
  • Increased body awareness and space orientation.
  • Increased elasticity and better breathing.
  • Increase in length of ligaments and connective tissue.

What Makes Aerial Yoga Special?

Aerial yoga is both a meditative and a joyful practice. It keeps you in the moment, involved and always challenged. Development does not occur in one day, it takes commitment and practice. However, it turns out to be one of the most gratifying experiences that a yoga practitioner can go through. And the good thing about it is that it is available to all, irrespective of level of experience.

A Modern Yet Traditional Practice

This type of yoga blends the roots of classical yoga with a modern and playful approach. It invites students into a learning journey that becomes deeply transformative with regular practice.

For Beginners and Experienced Yogis

Anyone can practise aerial yoga. Whether you are a complete beginner or already established in yoga, your progress depends on your dedication, consistency, and willingness to learn.

What Is Aerial Yoga and Aerial Yoga Hammock?

The first thing you need to know about Aerial yoga is the hammock because it is the core of this practice.

Hammock in Aerial yoga is made of a fabric which is soft, smooth and at the same time extremely strong. It is stretchy enough to allow the flow of fluids and yet strong enough to support the full weight of the practitioner without any form of failure. The hammock is set up to fit the height of the student before each of the sessions so that each individual can practice without risk and comfortably.

In short, a hammock is a clever and multi-purpose prop. It assists the body with postures, provides space to invert, and allows depth of movement that is not possible with the conventional floor-based yoga. And our wonderful sense of lightness, light, free, unlike any other.

Supports spinal decompression and inversion safely
Improves flexibility in hips, shoulders, and hamstrings
Strengthens core, arms, shoulders, and upper body
Enhances balance, coordination, and alignment
Creates a sense of joy, adventure, and confidence
Helps practitioners explore themselves more deeply

Here is how the hammock actively supports your practice:

Spinal Decompression: The natural process of decompression of the spine is achieved by the inversion of the hammock and takes pressure off the intervertebral discs, which benefits spinal health in the long-term.

More Flexibility: The material aids the body to go far into deeper poses, particularly in the hips, hamstrings and shoulders compared with traditional yoga.

Core and Upper Body Strength: The postures of the hammock require constant movement between and within postures, engaged by the core, arms and shoulders and builds functioning strength over time.

Balance & Body Awareness: Hammock balancing the body, is a practice that increases co-ordination, perception and mindfulness.

What Typically Happens During an Aerial Yoga Class

In each Aerial yoga session, the teacher actively directs the students on how to align well, make relevant adjustments, and breathe. Their main concern is the safety and confidence of each student and every session is designed in such a way that it would be a positive, progressive and secure experience.

Warm-Up:

The lesson starts with some mild stretches, breathing exercises, and warming up, which will prepare the body to work with aerial exercises.

Hammock Set-Up:

Hammock: Each of the students will set up his or her hammock at the appropriate height so that it fits his or her body. Instructors are always there to assist and ensure that everything is safe and correct and then begin playing.

Guided Postures and Flows:

The teacher takes the students through a well-organized sequence of poses, flows and sequences that are specifically developed to practice aerial and develop throughout the session.

Aerial Inversions:

Students train inversions, which are partially or completely suspended; in these practices the spine is decompressed, circulation is stimulated and a very profound sense of release is created in the body.

Deep Stretching:

Students will go into poses that are far beyond their ability to achieve on the floor with the support of the hammock. The outcomes become experienced instantly and with practice become much better.

Savasana and Relaxation:

This session ends with Savasana practiced in the hammock - the body is softly held in the cloth. Students come out of this last rest in a calm, refreshed and very relaxed state.
